Our client, a heavy industrial manufacturer located in Shelbyville, KY is seeking a Controls Engineer. This position will provide support for the Maintenance Team to design and program automated industrial control systems. As the Controls Engineer, you will have the opportunity to design PLCs, HMIs, servo controls, and industrial robotics. You will be involved in all aspects of design control, programming, testing, and fine-tuning the systems you developed. This is a team environment where we support one another. Responsibilities
- Acts as a machine controls and electrical subject matter expert and assists in troubleshooting machine control problems when additional resources and skills are needed.
- When necessary, will be a focal person to work with external technical resources to problem solve and implement solutions.
- Will develop and monitor the training program for the Electrical Maintenance team.
- Assists in Machine upgrade projects, including investigations, cost estimates, project planning, installation, and start-up.
- Learns new capital equipment operation, controls structure, design, and hardware to troubleshoot and provide training to the electrical team.
- Assists Project Engineering with equipment installation, checkout, start-up, and training as needed.
- Secures, maintains and applies knowledge of current industry practice for safe work practices and safe equipment operation. Examples are National and State electrical codes and NFPA70E (Arc Flash) codes.
- May serve as a critical source for the completion of preventative Maintenance on electrical substations and high voltage switchgear.
- Supports the electrical team in troubleshooting machine electrical systems, calibrations, safety teams, continuous improvement teams to continuously improve operations (including safety, quality, service, and costs).
- Supports the Maintenance Team directly by working alongside, troubleshooting, and repairing manufacturing equipment.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Associate Degree in Electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics or Industrial engineering strongly preferred, will consider work experience in place of degree
- 2 or more years of work experience in a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of PLCs, Drives, Motors, Power distribution, and Manufacturing electrical systems.
- Technically proficient with Allen-Bradley and Siemens software applications
- Working knowledge of troubleshooting various PLC languages and drive systems.
- Electrical Code Training
- Understanding Process Control & Instrumentation (temperature, flow, pressure, level, etc.) and Power Distribution (480 VAC & below).
- Understanding of Ladder Logic, Functional Block Diagrams, or Structured Text Programming.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills are required
Salary and Benefits
- Pay range -$100,000 - $115,000
- Bonus potential up to 10%
