The Aerospace, Transportation, and Advanced Systems Laboratory (ATAS) of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking technical personnel to be part of an established software team that has multiple opportunities for software engineers within the Aerospace and Acoustic Technologies Division (AATD) at Smyrna, GA. Our development team utilizes modern software engineering techniques to design, code, integrate and test. We are seeking individuals that can integrate their skillsets with a traditional engineering team for a multifaceted development program.
Job Purpose
The Flight Test Engineer (FTE) performs the research, planning, development, execution, data analysis engineering, reporting, and documentation of developmental and operational test events of aircraft, systems, and unique capabilities for DOD customers. Has a multi-disciplinary engineering approach to problem solving and experience with complex integrated systems to include aircraft, avionics, unmanned autonomous systems, radar, and defensive systems. Responsible for development of the test & evaluation strategy, integrated test & evaluation master plan framework; requirements verification and validation methods, design of experiments, test objectives, methodology, and evaluation criteria; produce lab, test facility, ground and flight test plans. Has knowledge of DoD test facilities and ranges, and be able to direct, and conduct test events (lab, facility, ground, flight) and support events as required by the customer. Responsible for the collection and instrumentation requirements of test data, review and quick look assessment of test data. Performs data analysis engineering functions to ensure verification and validation of test plans and develop the reporting requirements for test projects. Serves as the engineering subject matter expert of all customer and program test and evaluation events, lead and support all test plan working groups, test and safety boards, and program and technical meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze test program to ensure completeness and applicability.
- Performs data analysis engineering to support verification and validation of test metrics.
- Aggregate test results and execute complex and/or special case tests.
- Record results and perform checks on success and accuracy.
- Research and diagnose system failures and isolate the source of problems between hardware components and software applications.
- Primary Author for sections of technical reports/presentations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Discussions with operational personnel (pilots, maintainers, deployed warfighters) and programmatic government personnel.
- Supporting testing and test planning events, including site surveys.
- Supporting technical discussions, calls and meetings.
- Interfacing with aerospace engineers and computer scientists to convert end user feedback into technical requirements and vice versa.
- Assist with assessing a site's aircraft fuel operations status.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Experience working with DoD aircraft and flight hardware.
- Experience working on a DoD flight line.
- Experience working with pilots and aircraft maintenance personnel.
- Ability to communicate with flight readiness personnel, capture requirements and troubleshoot challenges onsite during testing.
- Experience supporting flight line operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Secret Clearance.
- Experience working with aircraft fueling.
- Experience working in an operational environment.
- Familiarity with aircraft maintenance, sustainment and post flight operations.
- Experience writing technical documentation.
Travel Requirements
10% - 25% travel.
Education and Length of Experience
