Library Assistant, Civic Services Passport Agent
Job description
Essential Functions of the Job:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing direct assistance to the public with applying for and submitting US passport applications; reviewing, handling, and processing all documents and fees as part of the US passport application process and to ensure that the information meets Federal requirements; administering US passport oath to applicants; serving as a primary contact for notary services ; providing general customer service support and directing customers to an appropriate staff member or a specific area of the library based on the request; provides one-on-one or small group training for patrons regarding the passport application process; preparing daily deposit of passport fees and submitting them to the SCLSNJ Finance Office according to established procedures; performs other clerical tasks as needed or assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred; verbal and written fluency in English and Spanish; two years of related patron service, library, teaching or computer training experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities; reliable transportation to regularly perform work at other branch locations, attend trainings, meetings, or other assigned duties at other branches or off-site locations as required; at least 18 years old; US citizen or national; not under indictment, on parole, or previously convicted for crimes of breach of trust or moral turpitude.
Certifications: (required within 90 days of hire)
US Passport Agent (post-hire)
New Jersey Notary Public (post-hire)
Physical Demands:
Reading materials and providing verbal assistance to library users in English and Spanish; manual dexterity to handle books, software, and a variety of other media formats; intermittent sitting, standing, and walking; occasional bending, reaching, and stooping; lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 lbs.; pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 100 lbs.; distinguishing sounds at various frequencies and volumes; distance vision sufficient to distinguish people or objects under a variety of light conditions; vision sufficient to view computer screens and spine labels under a variety of light conditions.
