The Licensed Practical Nurse provides essential family planning and abortion care to PPSAT patients. The LPN works closely with the health center staff and the Clinician. They ensure that the health center teams provide family planning and abortion services in accordance with PPSAT and PPFA polices, protocols, and procedures.

What You’ll Do:
Maintains accurate and complete documentation including charts, logs, CI/CIICs.
Provide education via telephone or face-to-face in a non-judgmental manner to patients by providing support and information on reproductive and sexual health issues.
Verify. Interpret, and communicate insurance coverage and benefits both electronically and over the phone.
Assist clinician in making patient referrals and documenting appointments scheduled in patient chart.
Provides telephone coverage for incoming calls, assists with requests for center appointments as applicable and other information calls that may require education about PPSAT services and/or appropriate referrals, both within and outside PPSAT.
Able to interpret and communicate clinic fee scale and pricing information, as well as patient insurance benefits, including copayments/coinsurance.
Responsible for patient fee receipts, reconciliation of computer journal sheet with daily deposits and timely reporting of same to Finance Department.
Ensures patients complete all necessary forms and obtains patient consents for services in an efficient and accurate manner.
Follows Center procedures for the processing and provision of OTC and prescription medications and birth control supplies.
Maintains adequate stock of necessary patient paperwork and makes copies as necessary.
Serve as laboratory testing personnel: collect and prepare laboratory specimens; maintain/check laboratory instruments; perform laboratory-related quality controls; order and result laboratory tests in the medical record; draw blood; dispose of contaminated supplies; perform and interpret in-house laboratory tests; participate in competency and proficiency requirements based on laboratory testing performed; demonstrate problem-solving skills.
Clean and sterilize medical instruments.
Recovery Room Functions of LPN:
May work independently under direction of the provider only in VA.
Provide nursing care to the patients in recovery room.
Assist and monitor patients in recovery room, including taking vital signs, administer medication, giving verbal and written aftercare instructions and birth control information, and reporting signs or symptoms of post abortion complications to the provider on duty.
Responsible for stocking recovery room with necessary supplies such as snacks, drinks, pads, brochures, and PPSAT consent/patient education sheets.
Prepare and administer medications per provider orders. Not to include preparing or administering medications via IV push. If the provider determines that this is necessary, they or an RN will prepare and push any IV push medications.
Maintain complete and accurate log of controlled substances administration.
Ensure patient charts and logs are completed and maintained in a timely, accurate and thorough manner, including staff signatures and initials where required.
Assist with the completion and documentation of Quality Control tasks, audits, and other quality assurance/management procedures as assigned.
Establish and maintain IV access as needed.
Assist provider with routine procedures and emergencies during clinical sessions.
Monitor emergency cart inventory and equipment log on a monthly basis for all routine and emergency expired medications and supplies per PPSAT protocol. Report any concerns to HCM or ND.
If working in a center that utilizes moderate sedation:
Maintain ACLS certification.
Establish and maintain IV access.
Assess patient.
Assist provider and/or RN with management of complications.
Complete all required documentation per PPSAT protocol.
Schedule:
Full time position working 35 to 39 hours per week:
Mon: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Tues: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Wed.: 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Thurs.: 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM
Sat.: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Compensation: The pay range for this position is $22.05 to $26.00 per hour with a Saturday differential of additional $7.00 per hour. This position offers potential for an additional shift differential. Starting offers are determined by both the candidate's experience and internal equity within the pay grade. PPSAT's compensation philosophy is based in equity and transparency. Built from data driven compensation studies, our positions are placed within a developed pay grade.
