Position: Part-Time Reassurance Counselor
Salary: $25 per hour up to 14 hours per week

Position Summary:
CIDNY seeks a highly effective Reassurance Counselor to provide an active listening ear to our consumers and provide assistance with connection to community resources and services. A Reassurance Counselor must have excellent listening skills as well as excellent communication skills, all the while comprehending what the consumer is trying to convey. Every consumer is to be treated with dignity and respect. A Reassurance Counselor must be knowledgeable and respectful of all disabilities, cultures, and their associated stigma. Reassurance Counselor must have at least 2 years of experience working with the disabled population and no less than two years of experience counseling. A Reassurance Counselor must be open-minded and have flexibility in servicing multicultural consumers, LGBTQ consumers, homeless consumers, and more while providing support and resources. The ideal candidate will be someone who can passionately support our mission of advancing the lives of people with disabilities and understands that mind and body wellness is an imperative relationship that must be maintained in tandem.
Responsibilities include:
- Assesses the counseling needs of the consumers.
- Collaborate with the consumer on options and service plan
- Determines the appropriate level of care according to consumer’s descriptions of need
- Review previous notes on consumers
- Develop a plan of services available to the consumer
- Refer the consumer to an in-house Benefits Counselor by contacting the Counselor and providing needed information to assist the consumer
- Work collaboratively with various departments within CIDNY to make sure consumers’ needs are being addressed
- Follow up with consumers throughout their assistance from CIDNY and make changes as needed
- Update case notes as things move forward or change
- Make outside contacts on the consumer's behalf.
- Document all counseling services, referrals, follow-up calls, and case assessment services provided to the consumer in the HIPPA-compliant database.
- Provide accurate case notes.
- Participate in all staff meetings.
- Participate in bi-weekly Reassurance Counselors’ meetings to collaborate with peers on counseling techniques, resources, current trends in therapy, and more.
Qualification and Skills
- Must possess a fierce dedication to the civil rights of individuals with disabilities
- Must have excellent communication skills as there is frequent communication between CIDNY, consumers, and other organizations committed to full Civil Rights, Integration, and Individual Rights of individuals with disabilities
- Superb writing skills are necessary.
- Must have a strong ability to multi-task, prioritize competing demands, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Have a good understanding of government writings such as SSA, HRA, NYCHA, and more
- American Sign Language or Spanish speaking is a strong plus, but not required.
- Computer literacy is necessary for this position.
- Some travel may be needed to homes, nursing homes, or hospitals; CIDNY will pay all expenses. Cell phone and

Education and Experience:
- Must possess multicultural competence and skills
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a challenging environment while meeting deadlines and goals
- Ability to build solid relationships and work with people at all levels within and outside the organization
- A Bachelor Degree, preferably but not requires, in psychology, social work, or any disciple in mental health. Will consider a high school degree if there are previous years of experience in the mental health field.
Position Specifics:
- Location: CIDNY's Manhattan Office 1010 Avenue of the Americas, Suite 301, NY, NY 10018, on the corner of Sixth Avenue and 38th Street.
- Shift: (must be flexible) 9:30 am till 5:30 pm. Monday – Friday. Hybrid Schedule (Two days per week must be client-facing).
- Salary: $25 an hour up to 14 hours a week
