Experience with Trimble GPS and Total Station work. Candidate must be well versed in Topographic mapping, As-Built, Prelim, and Utility. Must be fluent in using RD locators for SUE surveys and pin locators for boundary surveys. Experience with Pipeline Module for as-builts is a plus. Candidate must possess excellent communication skills, knowledge of Microsoft office suite products, and be available to adapt to changing job scopes and locations within Louisiana. Candidate must have a reliable personal vehicle (Truck or SUV) to work out of with a valid driver's license and insurance. Personal UTV is preferred, but not required.

  • Acts as party chief for a field survey crew engaged in making plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects; participates in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers, resident engineers, and contractor representatives; assigns and monitors work, and provides input for evaluation of members of field survey crew; and instructs and trains survey crew in survey and mapping methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures.
  • Gathers field survey data through the use of conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods; sets up, adjusts, and operates surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, to measure distances, elevations, and angles; prepares field notes and drawings; and performs field surveying for roadway, bridges, and flood control projects, including installing surveying construction stakes, tying out existing intersection ties, and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right of way, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines.
  • Performs complex surveying calculations using engineering calculator, laptop computer, personal computer, and graphics and coordinate geometry (Cogo) software, such as AutoCad-Softdesk; analyzes raw data for mathematical closure and geometric accuracy; provides survey information for Geographic Information System (GIS); and prepares finished grade sheets, topographic maps, records of survey, corner records, and other survey reports.
  • Researches existing record information, including record maps, plans, deeds, easements, and right-of-way documents, and maintains field data records, survey project files, and indexing systems.
  • Responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the equipment for GPS and/or conventional survey projects
  • Ensures all employees under direct and indirect responsibility are adequately trained and supervised at all times
  • Ensuring that the assigned survey vehicle is properly maintained.
  • Maintaining a proper inventory of all assigned equipment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to execute all tasks, including surveying, field calculations, and preparation of various survey reports.
  • Desire to exceed customer expectations and learn new skills.
  • Records survey by preparing notes, records, drawings, and applicable field equipment/hardware and software systems
  • Locates and determines land by measuring and calculating points, elevations, lines, angles, areas, and contours.
  • Uses survey instruments to accomplish tasks
  • Completes projects in a timely, efficient, and effective manner with deadlines and budgets in mind
  • All duties performed are to be carried out according to the safety of all personnel at the worksite and to efficiently perform the task.

Requirements

  • Must have as-built experience
  • Must be able to perform job duties in various terrain and climates.
  • Ability to prepare maps, drawings, and charts from field notes.
  • Ability to engage in fieldwork for extended periods and occasionally under adverse weather conditions as work assignments necessitate.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and sketches.
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Attention to detail
  • Must be able to travel 75%
  • GPS experience is a plus
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Supervisory Responsibility
In charge of team members such as Rod Man and/or Instrument Man


Physical Demands
To perform the essential functions of the job, incumbents may be required to perform moderately strenuous tasks, such as including lifting and carrying instruments weighing up to 75 pounds over rough terrain. Incumbents may also be required to clear vegetation, dig holes, and pound stakes with hand tools.
