JOB TITLE: Psychiatric Rehabilitation Worker (aka “Recovery Worker”)

SUPERVISOR: Program Coordinator

*SUMMARY
*This is a direct care psychiatric rehabilitation position that is primarily focused on the provision of services to individuals with serious and persistent mental illness and co-occurring diagnoses, who are members of the Community Integrated Recovery Center Day Program. An employee in this classification is responsible for the provision of a variety of services including, but not necessarily limited to; individual support, group facilitation, in-community services, case-management, and other duties related to the provision of psychiatric rehabilitation,
as well as the appropriate maintenance of a program member record. Assignments and other duties may be expanded based on the ability and scope of professional expertise. Employees in this classification shall be under the direct supervision of the Program Coordinator. Contact with individuals and groups; family members, managed care and insurance companies, and public welfare offices are a major aspect of this position. Ultimately, the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Worker is responsible for the professional delivery of psychiatric rehabilitation services to those program members on his or her team (or “caseload”); as well as the appropriate maintenance of all program member records under his or her care. This includes assurances that all documentation in a program member record is done in a thorough and timely fashion, and complies at all times with all regulatory obligations (e.g., OMHSAS guidelines). In addition, master’s-level Psychiatric Rehabilitation Workers will be required to be available for individual psychotherapy and group therapy as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree.

OR

An associate’s degree and one (1) year work experience in mental health direct service.

OR

A CPS certificate and one (1) additional year paid or volunteer work experience in mental health direct service.

OR

A high school diploma or GED and two (2) years work experience in human services, which must include one (1) year of mental health direct service.

  • As a condition of ongoing employment, employee will be required to attain within two years of hire, and sustain/renew on an ongoing basis, the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification (CPRP)
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a recovery-based team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work in an outpatient setting with high volume services.

*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*1. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for at least one hour at a time
2. Must be able to ascend/descend two flights of stairs
3. Must be able to move up to 20 pounds
4. Must be able to traverse 5 city blocks and/or 20 minutes at a time
5. Must be able to travel independently between Wedge locations and required external locations
6. Must be able to utilize and navigate public transportation and accompany members on van transportation
7. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with clientele who have severe disabilities and challenging behaviors

*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
*1. Responsible for performing individual and group consultation as scheduled or as the situation requires.
2. Responsible for facilitating both on-site and in-community psychiatric rehabilitation activities as assigned. Community-based work may require travel into the program members’ neighborhoods and homes.
3. Responsible for providing assistance to members with basic functions, including (but not limited to) finding appropriate activities, preparing for meals, self-care, and transportation.
4. Responsible for working cooperatively with the program member in the development of a recovery plan.
5. Responsible for ensuring that all documentation in the program member record is completed in a timely and thorough fashion, and that all documentation is completed in full compliance to all regulatory obligations.
6. Responsible for being fully aware of team assignment (caseload) and capable at any time to present clinical data on any program member under his or her care.
7. Responsible for completing all necessary documentation associated with the client’s managed care requirements for continued stay.
8. Responsible for preparing reports as needed.
9. Responsible for spending at least 30% of scheduled hours providing services in the community.
10. Responsible for performing other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor and/or upper management.
11. Responsible for completing required continuing education annually as required by State and CBH regulations.
12. Responsible for attending all supervision meetings and staff meetings as assigned.
13. Responsible for adhering to all Wedge policies and procedures.
14. Responsible for adherence to compliance and continuous quality improvement procedures, including CQI reporting, internal audits and reporting fraud and abuse

Wedge Recovery Centers has been providing mental health and substance use treatment since 1994, offering services to individuals in the Community Behavioral Health (CBH) system at our seven locations in Philadelphia. The Wedge continuum of services encompasses adult outpatient and intensive outpatient substance use treatment, an opioid treatment program (including medication-assisted treatment), early intervention for adolescents at risk for substance use, outpatient mental health services for adults, adolescents and children, and community-integrated recovery centers (CIRC; a hybrid psychiatric rehabilitation program) for adults and older adults. In 2016, Wedge was designated as an Opioid Use Disorder Center of Excellence by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 2018, Wedge was designated an Evidence-Based Practice Provider by CBH. Wedge is also widely-recognized as a provider of services to underserved communities, with staff who represent diverse cultures and speak at least seven languages in addition to English.
