This is an opportunity
to be responsible for maintaining department recreational access area sites within Region 3.

With your experience
you will perform skilled level work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of recreational access area sites to ensure health and safety compliance and appropriate facility conditions

We are seeking a candidate
to monitor and evaluate public use and overall condition; troubleshoot for appropriate service and apply solutions.

Our Region 3 Recreational Access Technician,

  • Independently cleans and maintains vault toilets in compliance with health and safety rules.
  • Inspects, repairs, installs, and maintains the physical facilities of the access sites, including signs, kiosks, and gates.
  • Constructs, maintains, and removes fence.
  • Grades, maintains, and repairs parking areas, access roads and boat launches.
  • Safely removes graffiti from signs/facilities using corrosive chemicals and sand blasting equipment.
  • Removes litter and monitors public use of access areas.
  • Assists Access Manager with removal of hazard trees.
  • Controls vegetation and weeds using integrated pest management techniques, including hand pulling, mowing, gas-powered weed removal devices, and applying herbicides in compliance with pesticide laws.
  • Operates and performs preventative maintenance on a variety of tools, small and large equipment including generators, pressure washers, ATV’s, trucks, tractors, and mowers.
  • Performs ground maintenance, including mowing and edging, fertilize/spray weeds, maintain automatic sprinkler system, trim shrubs, rake leaves, and remove snow from sidewalks and parking lot.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Setting, including hazards:
    • Work in all weather conditions and sometimes over difficult terrain and surfaces up to 90% of the time.
    • Lift and transport supplies and equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.
    • Travel up to 70% of the workday.
    • Ability to work independently, safely, efficiently and with self-motivation.
    • Some duties will require work in/on/around water. Must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations.
  • Schedule:
    • Typically, Monday – Thursday, 7:00 am – 5:00 pm.
    • At times, work may be off-schedule due to seasonal demands, emergencies, and time critical assignments.
    • Willing to be punctual and perform in a dependable manner.
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Occasional in-state travel required.
  • Tools and Equipment:
    • Duties require use of agency vehicles, trailers, power and hand tools, shovels, fence post drivers, pressure washers, welders and torches, tractors, mowers and ATVs and standard office equipment (computer, copier, scanner).
  • Customer Interactions:
    • Frequent contact with anglers and hunters during field work, as well as neighboring farmers and ranchers and volunteer groups.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
College level work in the field of fish, wildlife, or habitat management, agriculture, forestry, or a natural resource science may substitute year-for-year for experience.


  • High school diploma or GED.

And


  • Three (3) months of natural resource related labor experience.

Or

  • One year as a Natural Resource Worker 1 or equivalent.
    • Definition of Natural Resource Worker: Under close supervision and as a member of an organized crew, performs unskilled forest, agriculture, and/or aquatic land management labor.


License:

  • Valid driver’s license.


Trainings/Certifications:

  • First Aid within one (1) year (training provided).
  • ATV certification (training provided).
  • Washington State Pesticide Applicators License (training provided).


Knowledge of:

  • Power and hand tool and equipment operations.
  • Basics of carpentry, mechanical and facility repair.
  • Small and large equipment troubleshooting, repair and maintenance.
  • Metal prefabrication and welding techniques.
  • Computer software and hardware (MS/Office).
  • Safety procedures.
  • Conflict resolution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with:
  • Operating ATV and safely utilizing hand and power tools including chain saw.
  • Heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Noxious weed control and herbicide application.

Ability to:

  • Keep a daily log of work completed and time spent on all sites.

Well qualified applicants will demonstrate competencies in the following areas:

  • Safely operate motor vehicles including trucks and 4-wheelers.
  • Safely operate hand and power tools and equipment for metal and wood construction repairs and grounds maintenance.
  • Accurately maintain a daily log of sites worked at and the time spent at each location.
  • Effectively monitor and evaluate public use and overall condition; troubleshoot for appropriate service and apply solutions.
  • Understand and comply with health and safety policies, procedures, and standards to establish and maintain a safe work environment; report potential hazards, accidents, or critical incidents in a timely manner.
  • Model ethical behavior and demonstrating excellent customer service with the public, other departments, and co-workers.
  • Follow directions and details of jobs given; work independently and in remote work areas.
Ability to:
  • Proficiently drive, operate, haul, and maintain ATV, work truck, tractor, trailer, and backhoe.
  • Repair and maintain buildings, fences, facilities, and equipment.
  • Remove danger trees.
  • Work independently.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and requirements.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Work with the public in a respectful manner.
