Job description
Who are we hiring?

The Garden of Dreams is recruiting two different Senior Mangers: this position has a focus on fundraising and grantmaking; the other focuses on program design and implementation. The Garden of Dreams Foundation (GDF) works in partnership with MSG Entertainment and MSG Sports, as well as numerous external non-profit partner organizations, to bring life-changing opportunities to young people in need. GDF serves children with chronic/acute illness, parents wounded or lost in the line of duty, and children born into challenging economic circumstances, and brings them together to raise their spirits, build resilience, and provide networking and educational opportunities through MSG’s power of community building. These programs include college scholarships, the building of enrichment spaces (e.g., dance studios, recording studios, gyms) in communities, mentoring programs, white glove treatment at MSG events, and participation in the annual Garden of Dreams Talent Showcase at Radio City Music Hall. Working with the Executive Director and key partners across the company, the Senior Manager will develop and implement the organization’s overall fundraising strategy to increase revenue for the Foundation, including strengthening existing fundraising programs through internal brands, helping with board development, and identifying new digital fundraising opportunities. As part of this, the position will coordinate efforts with divisions, including conducting on-site efforts at select Knicks and Rangers games, galas and auctions and coordinating sweepstakes in partnership with MSG Networks. The position will also manage Garden of Dreams grantmaking activities, including its Inspire Scholarship for post-secondary education, community construction and relief grants and its Season of Giving: special opportunities for MSG employees and brands (Knicks, Rangers, Rockettes, etc.) to give back during the holiday season. The position has both supervisory and on the ground daily duties as part of a hands-on, close knit and collaborative team. This is a rare opportunity for an entrepreneurial manager to experience both resource-development and deployment within the context of a corporate non-profit.

What will you do?

  • In consultation with the Executive Director, lead the planning, execution, budgeting and evaluation of multiple fundraising initiatives conducted in partnership with all areas of MSG including the Knicks, Rangers, Live (concerts), facilities, corporate, and MSG Networks
  • Develop revenue projections for fundraising events and provide financial analysis

  • Manage year-over-year digital fundraising program and revenue growth
  • Ensure a high-touch response and acknowledgment process to partners & donors
  • Individual donor acquisition, cultivation and stewardship
  • Manage Raiser’s Edge NXT donor management system and other data base information systems
  • Management of scholarship application and distribution processes
  • Management of construction and relief grant processes, including nonprofit proposal review, contracting and reporting
  • Coordination of employee and corporate division contributions during the Season of Giving
  • Ability to work both corporate hours plus event hours, inclusive of evenings and weekends (regular event-support)
  • Performs additional duties as required.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7 - 10 years of non-profit fundraising and/or grantmaking experience
  • Proven success in fundraising and/or grantmaking with strong customer-oriented practice
  • Skilled at analyzing and using data to inform strategic fundraising and grantmaking decisions that drive strong ROI
  • Experience managing junior members of team
  • Experience planning and executing digital fundraising strategies preferred
  • Exceptional organizational, written, and verbal communication with ability to meet deadlines and achieve results in a team environment
  • Must be proficient in customer relations management (CRM) platforms with preferred experience using Raisers Edge NXT and Luminate or other fundraising databases; proficiency in QuickBooks preferred

  • Detail oriented, works well and is flexible under pressure in fast-paced environment; exceptional time management and prioritization skills
  • Experience with non-traditional work requirements, such as long hours and weekends, a plus
