Westat is seeking a Senior Solutions Architect to support our research that spans public health, clinical trials, social policy and education. You will have wide-ranging technical expertise, business analysis skills, and leadership skills.

Job Responsibilities

• Design and describe technology solutions for research projects.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts across social science domains, and technical leads to capture requirements.
• Define system architectures and technical specifications to guide the development of software applications or services.
• Contribute to the strategic direction of the software engineering team.
• Evaluating existing systems and technologies to identify opportunities for improvement or modernization.
• Manage engineering team working on a project.
• Contribute to engineering tasks.

Basic Qualifications

• Typically requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field and 7+ years of Enterprise Java solution development, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with Spring/Spring Boot.
• Experience with Web Services and Microservices.
• Experience with REST / JSON
• Experience with development of cloud-native applications and systems in Amazon Web Services (AWS)).
• Experience with NoSql database or repositories (e.g., Elasticsearch, Redis, etc.)
• Experience with Message Queues (e.g., Kafka, SQS)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a DevOps environment (e.g. Jenkins, Gitlab)
• Experience with Cloud Solution Architecture.
• Experience with Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript web frameworks, preferably Vue
• Experience with automated testing.
• Experience with Relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL, etc.)

• Work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
