Organization Overview

At the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP), our business is changing lives. We are a vibrant, entrepreneurial, nonprofit organization in the heart of Silicon Valley that is committed to empowering the youth in our community with equitable access to social, academic, and career opportunities to thrive. We partner with schools and the community to ensure students from low-income neighborhoods graduate from high school, are ready for college and a career so they can lead fulfilling lives fueled by their passions, talents, and a love of learning.

We have grown steadily over the past 20 years to become the largest expanded learning time organization in San Mateo County, sites in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City, South San Francisco, Daly City, and San Mateo. Our 24 program locations serve nearly 3,500 students countywide and are made possible with a $28 million organizational budget and through the talents of a 300-employee-strong workforce that keeps growing.

Position Overview

BGCP is seeking positive and energetic Summer Youth Program Leadersto deliver invaluable in-person academic enrichment projects, Camp Galileo projects, and outdoor play activities in the afternoons to elementary school or middle school youth at ourOrange Park Clubhouse location inSouth San Francisco, CA. You will have the unique opportunity to build life-changing relationships with program participants, gain valuable professional development and leadership skills, and make a positive impact in the community.

Pay Rate:$21.00-$29.00 per hour (DOE)

Bonus: $500.00 bonus for completion of the 2023 Summer Program

Dates:

• Training dates: May 31- June 2

• Training Hours 9:00 am – 5:30 pm

• Program dates: June 5 – July 21, Monday – Friday (except Mondays, June 19 and July 3-4, which are holidays)

Work Shifts Available:

• A. 7:30 am – 2:00 pm (6.5 hours) Academic Enrichment

• B. 10:30 am – 5:00 pm (6.5 hours) Galileo Enrichment

• Mandatory Galileo Training Date: Saturday, June 3rd 9:00-5:00 pm | 201 W Orange Ave, South San Francisco

What will you do?

• Adapt, implement, and lead engaging, fun, and hands-on enrichment projects and activities for classes of approximately 20students

• Daily prep time, which entails preparing materials, reading the lesson plan, and preparing for the next day

• Implement classroom management and behavior coaching strategies to maintain a positive learning environment

• Support meal supervision, recess, and other student activities

• Attend mandatory orientation, trainings, and team meetings

• Ensure all health and safety protocols are enforced and followed

• You help to keep students engaged and further their learning

• You work collaboratively with staff and contribute to a fun team dynamic

What qualifications will the ideal candidate have?

• MUST provide proof of COVID vaccination (if eligible for medical exemption, please communicate directly with BGCP's Human Resources team)
• At least 18 years of age
• Maturity and strong communication skills
• Ability to motivate through positive reinforcement
• Flexible in navigating a fast-paced environment
• Preferred prior experience working with K-8 youth
