We are looking for a Technical Policy Writer to support our client based in Des Moines, Iowa
US BASED CANDIDATES ONLY.
This is a fully Remote position.

The project
TECKpert seeks to hire a Technical Policy Writer to support our client, a government agency based in Des Moines, IA.
The Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Division of Information Technology is
looking for a Technical Writer to develop and write a variety of end-user product documentation including, quick start, implementation, and user guides. This position determines the needs of the audience, organizes the structure of technical documents, and writes information to meet the needs of the audience so they may easily find and consume the information.
Job* duties includes but not limited to -*

Collaborates with teams across DoIT and other divisions within HHS as part of a project team to produce a wide variety of technical publications
- Research both technology and existing documentation such as design documents, technical drawings, product specifications, UAT testing, and subject matter expert interviews to gather information to complete documentation
- Translates technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel
- Creates, updates and maintains deliverables including but not limited to technical manuals, instructional material, diagrams, process flows, step by step instructions, policy and procedures, and product documentation for internal and external audiences
- Designs and formats documents that adhere to standards for optimum presentation, appeal, readability, and ease of ongoing maintenance
- Identifies, selects, and incorporates visuals with written content
- Writes and edits content for assigned materials; adheres to and manages materials throughout design, development, draft, edit, review, and publishing
- Supports efforts to standardize documentation accessibility
- Solicits and incorporates feedback, and revises documents as needed

Compensation and Term*
This opportunity is for a full-time, one year contract position with possible extensions with pay commensurate with experience up to $35/hour or $72,800 per year. Medical, dental, vision and life insurance available after 30 days of hire.
Qualifications you need
A successful Technical Policy Writer possesses or provides the following:
- A degree in technical writing, communications, or management information systems. Equivalent experience can be substituted for education. - Required 5 Years
- Knowledge of the NIST 800-53 security framework re: policies -Required 5 Years
- Knowledge in privacy and security standards - Required 5 Years
- Knowledge in writing technical documentation-Required 5 Years
- Experience with Visio- Required 5 Years
- Expert editing and formatting skills-Required 5 Years
- Ability to quickly obtain and understand information from a vast number of sources -Required 5 Years
- Experience working in an Agile project environment -Required 5 Years
- Resolving and influencing the positive outcome of conflicting objectives and priorities-Required 5 Years
- Excellent writing and editing skills; able to adapt to a standard technical writing style, write clearly and concisely, and convey information in multiple formats for a variety of audiences with different levels of understanding. -Required 5 Years
- Able to analyze material, discern key information, and present in manner best understood by target audience-Required 5 Years
- Able to formulate questions to gain understanding, capture necessary information, and ask appropriate follow-up questions -Required 5 Years
- The ability to work highly independent and as part of a team -Required 5 Year
