Pre-Primary Teacher Job Description
Job Purpose: Looking for at least one year child care /classroom experience. The teacher facilitates the cognitive and moral/social development of children in their charge. The responsibility is seen in terms of individual children’s needs for optimal development and of the need to create intentional community.
Classroom Responsibilities
● Prepares and maintains a clean, aesthetic classroom environment; plans and coordinates the Montessori program.
- Is responsible for the safety of the children placed in their charge until each has been dismissed to a responsible adult. No child should ever be left unsupervised either inside or outside the classroom. Each faculty member’s chief responsibility is to their students. They are expected to place the children’s interests first above other personal and professional considerations.
● Inventories all classroom supplies and materials each year; assesses the needs of the class and prepares requests for materials, furnishings, and supplies within the framework of the budgeting process.
● Packs up and prepares the learning environment for summer storage before leaving.
● Unpacks and prepares the learning environment prior to the start of the new school year.
● Attends summer professional development sessions as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Professional Relationships
● Reports directly to the Director working on all classroom and school related matters.
● Periodic classroom and staff evaluations will be scheduled jointly with the Director.
● Communicates with parents: conducts Parent/Teacher conferences, attends all school gatherings as requested by the Director, attends evening parent meetings.
● Participates in the admissions process, speaking from time to time with prospective families at the request of the Director and assisting with visiting students.
● Participates in professional development activities and shares information with staff.
● Prepares goals and participates in an annual assessment process.
● Maintains a mature professional relationship with the faculty, administration and staff voicing concerns directly to the parties involved in a responsible manner and treating one another with respect at all times.
Qualifications:
Education
Toddler Teacher
● Bachelor’s Degree in ECE or Child Development preferred
● CPR and First Aid training yearly (provided by school)
Experience
Completed at least one year of teaching in an early childhood classroom (birth to age 5).
Montessori classroom experience preferred.
Impact
The teacher is the most critical element in a strong Montessori program. The teacher is a direct resource for the child, and is also the primary link between the school and the family.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $13.60 - $15.25 per hour
