St. Thomas Aquinas parish in East Lansing is now accepting resumes for a part to full-time Youth Minister.

Summary: Furthers the mission of the Catholic Church to “Make disciples of all nations” by inviting and forming youth in a dynamic relationship with Christ and his Church as well as living out the call of mission through their baptism and Confirmation.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
YOUTH MINISTRY
  • Youth Ministry Regular Meetings
    • Plan, publicize, and execute regular youth ministry meetings for both High School and Middle School Students.
    • Develop and utilize a young adult / adult leadership team to help execute regular youth ministry meetings
    • Provide or coordinate hospitality at all meetings
  • High School Leadership Team Development
    • Continue to foster discipleship within the high school leadership team members
    • Discern and grow the leadership team as new students rise within the program
    • Meet with the leadership team regularly to plan and execute regular youth ministry meetings
  • Individual Discipleship and Prayer Mentorship
    • Provide availability for students to meet individually for discipleship and mentorship as needed
  • High School Retreat
    • Plan and execute our yearly high school retreat (typically in December)
  • Other Retreats
    • Plan, publicize, and take groups to other retreats as they are available including:
    • The Mission: Wixom (weekend in spring)
    • The Mission: Flint and Lansing (week in summer)
    • Diocese Day-Long Conference (day in fall)
  • Summer Youth Group Meetings
    • Plan, publicize, and execute summer youth ministry meetings and/or trips
CONFIRMATION
  • Confirmation Initial Registration and Interviews
    • Register and interview students entering the Confirmation preparation period each yearDevelop their personalized Confirmation preparation plan
  • Confirmation Preparation Period
    • Provide at least one meeting of catechesis about the Sacrament of Confirmation
    • Provide and/or facilitate other volunteers/staff who provide regular required oneon-one prayer mentorship with students (typically once a month during the preparation period)
    • Organize and communicate regularly regarding student checklists, progress, and missed objectives
  • Confirmation Retreat
    • Plan and execute at least one retreat for Confirmation preparation students
  • Confirmation Liturgy
    • Plan, publicize, and execute Confirmation rehearsal and Mass
    • Communicate yearly with Diocese with request for dates for Confirmation
    • Work with Adult Faith Formation for their candidates to join our liturgy
ADMINISTRATIVE
  • Intern
    • Manage, schedule, and meet regularly with Youth Ministry MSU intern, if available
  • Faith Formation Staff
    • Participate in regular faith formation staff meetings
    • Assist with faith formation events, projects, and initiatives
  • Parish Leadership Team
    • Participate in regular parish leadership meetings
    • Assist with parish-wide events, projects, and initiatives
EDUCATION AND FORMATION:
Formed in the teachings of the Catholic faith, has a firm grasp of Renewing the Vision as well as recent and relevant evangelization and discipleship methods (including catechesis). Preference will be given to those who have theology formation from a Catholic institution of higher learning or an equivalent in a related field.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two years of experience as a catechist or involvement in other parish ministry required. Must have stayed current on trends in generational changes and catechetical ministry, including
evangelization and discipleship.
REQUIRED: Must be a practicing Catholic active in his/her parish. Must have a valid driver's license. Must pass background check and attend Virtus Child and Youth Protection Training.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing duties, employee has to sit for long periods of time, use hands in repetitive motion tasks, and answer telephone calls. The position also requires some standing, stooping, and bending when coordinating various educational programs and presentations. Employee is expected to work onsite. Some travel is required throughout the school year. Weekend work is required.
