The City of Charlevoix seeks an outgoing, forward-thinking aviation professional to be the next manager of one of northern Michigan’s busiest non-Part 139 airport. Over 30,000 annual operations occurred in Charlevoix last year with a mix of air-taxi, corporate jet, military, general aviation, and skydiving. With two airport operators offering multiple daily flights to and from Beaver Island, the Charlevoix Municipal Airport offers great variety and opportunities to continue your aviation career in an exciting and fast-paced environment. Featuring a recently resurfaced asphalt runway with a length of 4,549 feet (9/27) and a seasonally used turf runway of 1,280 feet (4/22). KCVX has annual revenue of roughly $2 million and a stabilized fund balance. The Airport Manager oversees all operations of the airport and its staff of 3 full-time employees and several part-time and seasonal employees. The City of Charlevoix performs FBO functions and maintains the airfield and grounds.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in airport management at a senior level. The next Airport Manager should be skilled in working closely with multiple airport operators, adept at managing expectations from various members of the flying public and maintain an affable and friendly demeanor when dealing with residents, customers, and visitors. Reporting to the City Manager, the Airport Manager is a department head of the city and will occasionally present to City Council and work with the Charlevoix business community to integrate the airport into the economic life of one of Michigan’s premiere resort communities. The next Airport Manager should be as comfortable mowing grass and plowing snow on the airfield as they are preparing budgets and reviewing engineering reports. Experience with FAA primary entitlement airports, MDOT Aeronautics grants, and related administration is highly preferred.

With a full complement of benefits, the next Airport Manager can expect an annual salary of $65,000 to $75,000 per year depending on qualifications. Standard holidays and leave time are granted along with after-hour call-out pay when operations require it. The next Airport Manager should possess a driver’s license, an airport manager’s license, live within 20 miles of the airport after a transition period, and be ready to serve the public.
