Pay Grade: Manager 4
This position manages and supervises Assistive Technology staff members. This position evaluates and determines the assistive technology needs of students with disabilities while implementing technology accommodations, providing assistive technology support, troubleshooting accessibility problems, and consulting with staff/faculty on accessibility.

Supervises, hires, and evaluates assistive technology staff
Schedules and assigns tasks to each assistive technology support staff based on student needs which may include the development of materials with tactile creation, captioning, enlargement, sighted assistance, etc.
Evaluates and determines the assistive technology needs of students with disabilities through consultation meetings with Coordinators to implement assistive technology accommodations
Trains students in the use of assistive technology by providing technical and instructional support related to technology through department generated supplemental training, videos and instructions.
Maintains confidential student files regarding training and Assistive Technology support
Oversees and assigns the conversion of texts, tests, and materials in to an alternative format; ensures a current list of alternate texts is maintained; maintains and updates the DSS Blackboard "Accessible Materials" course that serves as an online repository for student textbooks/materials in alternative format
Installs, maintains, and trouble-shoots assistive technology software products; contacts ITS and assistive technology companies if technical support is needed
Consults and assists faculty/staff with providing accessible course materials, implementation of Assistive Technology, help with Assistive Technology issues, and greater understanding of the accessibility of multimedia sites for students with disabilities; trains faculty/staff on assistive technology, as needed, to provide greater student access and implement accommodations
Coordinates the implementation of appropriate assistive technology hardware across all campuses; maintains database of assistive technology with the location of equipment and software
Researches existing and new assistive technology developed for use in education and employment, recommends the most appropriate software and hardware for access to the Director and academic departments across the College for purchase
Collaborates with ITS and consults with Distance Education and the Individualized Learning Center in the development of college-wide accessibility
Evaluates and consults on web accessibility for online classes, Wake Tech web site, and the DSS web site
Collaborates with and serves as a resource for campus entities in regard to issues and requirements pertaining to access technology and as a resource to increase awareness of universal design concepts??
Captions videos and consults with faculty/staff regarding the captioning process for student accommodations
Completes an annual applied benchmark project on an individual or group basis
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficiency with Blackboard, Microsoft Office products, and the Internet
Thorough knowledge in Assistive Technology (i.e. Dragon Naturally Speaking, Adobe Acrobat, NVDA, Zoom Text, Open Book, Jaws, Wynn, Braille Embosser, Microsoft products, D2L, and other web-based applications)
Skilled in effectively communicating complex technical matters related to disabilities both verbally and in writing
Ability to work under time constraints and to multi-task/prioritize
Excellent listening skills
Must possess excellent technical, project management, organizational and time management skills
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Technology, or a related field
Five years of related experience in Assistive Technology
Captioning experience
Ability to travel to various campuses as needed
Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 15 pounds
Preferences:
Supervisory Experience
Knowledge of brailing documents and understanding braille code
Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) Certificate
Experience with student disability services at the post-secondary level
