Job description
Atomic Machines is developing an entirely new digital manufacturing platform (“AMP”) that will enable the creation of micro-scale machines that existing technologies are unable to produce. Our zero-tooling platform will have a profound impact on the rate of industry-wide innovation while enabling mass scale production of transformational devices. We are also designing and building devices ourselves utilizing our platform, and our first products have exceptional product/market fit.
This is the starting point for us in pursuit of a massive world-changing mission that promises to radically enhance humanity’s command of matter. Joining forces with us means becoming part of an incredibly talented, inventive and passionate multi-disciplinary team running hard to make our platform, products and vision a reality. You will have the opportunity to help define the company from its earliest days. You’ll be challenged to learn and grow as a builder and a leader as the company itself grows rapidly. And you will receive significant equity compensation - you’ll truly be a company owner and benefit financially from our overall success.
Our offices are in Berkeley and Santa Clara, California.
About this Role:
The Director of Finance will report initially to the CEO and is responsible for owning all aspects of financial operations and planning of Atomic Machines. The role will include overseeing accounting operations, bill pay services, budgets, forecasting and operating results analysis. Strong FP&A skills are highly valuable for the company’s significant fundraising and commercial relationship development efforts. Additionally, the Director of Finance will create the financial infrastructure to scale as the company grows across people, technology, and processes, along with building relationships with banking institutions, venture capital and government organizations. Importantly, this role will be very hands-on at the outset - the ideal candidate will enjoy doing the work her/himself to start and then building the team and Finance function as the company scales.
What You’ll Do:
- Manage all accounting operations, including accounts payable, receivables, payroll, and taxes.
- Work closely with the CEO and leadership team to create and maintain detailed, high-quality financial forecasts, annual plans, and operational analyses.
- Implement financial strategies, policies, and procedures to meet the company's goals and objectives.
- Leverage your financial analysis, accounting, and modeling skills, including the ability to interpret disparate, complex data into a range of alternate futures.
- Build business cases and ROI models for various strategic initiatives.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, to provide insights on the company's financial performance on a monthly and annual basis.
- Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including investors, auditors, and banks.
- Present financial data and analyses to senior management and Board of Directors.
- Develop and maintain financial controls and risk management procedures to minimize financial risks to the company.
- Work with the leadership team to develop and maintain a company budget.
- Model cash flow scenarios and financials to establish capital needs.
- Conduct audits of company expenditures, liabilities, and assets. Prepare the company for audited financials.
- Ensure company capital is properly safeguarded and invested with proper risk/upside profile.
What You’ll Need:
- 10+ years of experience in finance, ideally including management of the finance function for an early-stage venture-backed technology startup.
- Experience with sophisticated financial planning & analysis utilizing modern FP&A tools.
- Deep knowledge of best accounting practices and common accounting software, e.g. QuickBooks, NetSuite, etc. Experience leading integrations and migrations of financial / ERP systems.
- Expert spreadsheet skills (ideally in both Excel and Google Sheets) and strong working knowledge of overall Google Suite.
- Powerful communication skills with the ability to articulate complicated financial concepts to non-financial audiences.
- A hard-working, high-integrity work ethic, strong analytical mindset, and exceptional organizational skills; experience contributing to a high-performance culture.
- Experience building and leading a high-performance Finance team.
- Ability to influence through outstanding interpersonal skills and build collaborative relationships with, and consensus among, multiple stakeholders with varying points of view.
- Set and deliver roadmaps for the finance function, across technology upgrades, team building, and process improvements.
- Experience with strategic partnerships.
- Experience with mergers and acquisitions.
- Experience raising venture capital and debt.
- Experience managing corporate equity programs.
- Experience with 3rd party accounting/auditing service providers.
- Experience with federal and state tax codes and regulations. B.S. in Finance (or equivalent).
The compensation range for this postion is $180-250K, plus equity and benifits.
