Entry-Level Design Highway Engineer
Job description
- Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques and principles, with the guidance of senior staff, to develop designs, reports, presentation materials, and other elements necessary for project success
- Perform engineering calculations, write technical reports, and present findings to project engineers and managers
- Research design options and apply code provisions
- Work with senior engineers and planners to create designs that meet or exceed client needs
- Work directly on projects with the NYSDOT, counties, and other municipalities across New York State
- Interpret drawings, often involving multiple disciplines, for specific projects
- Submit concept designs and work through approval processes such as obtaining agency permits
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, supervisors, clients, and colleagues
- Meet schedule, budget, and quality goals set by project managers
- Create cost estimates
- Work toward fluency in Bentley MicroStation/Open Roads Designer and create plans, profiles, 3D CADD models, etc.
- Meet and build rapport with clients of Bergmann, and affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design
- Field work conducted in collaboration with senior and project engineers
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
- E.I.T. preferred but not required
- 0-2 years' experience in transportation/highway/traffic design
- Previous internship experience and/or capstone project work pertaining to highway/traffic engineering preferred
- Some experience working with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD and other software packages is preferred
- Experience with Open Roads Designer and/or InRoads preferred
- Previous experience with Traffic analysis software is a plus
- Prior experience with NYSDOT, TCI or local projects is a plus
- Possess a strong work ethic, good communication skills, an attention to detail and exhibit an eagerness to learn
- Ability to work closely with others
- Ability to work primarily independently
