Description
The Gauge Setter plays a critical role in the production of quality precision components through the setting of a variety of gauges for all production jobs in the shop. The person in this role must have an understanding of +/- tolerance and the imperial measurement system in order to translate blue print requirements into gauges used to verify parts are being made to specification.
Key Accountabilities
- Set a variety of gauges, such as calipers, micrometers, air gages, indicators, and special test equipment using blue print specifications.
- Set up and adjust gages using blue print specifications with master part, Jo Blocks, and set rings per specification requirements. This includes periodic verifications of gauge set-up.
- Ability set up Go/No Go plug gauges, snap gauges, and thread gauges.
- Ability to stack Jo blocks
- Recommend new gauge setting standards for standardization of the process of gauge set-ups, training, minimize gauge set-up issues, and wait time for gauges to the manufacturing area.
- Work with quality/design engineering in the design of new or modified gauging when required.
- Train, guide, and support co-workers in the gage crib.
- Utilize the Calibration software system to assign various gauges to track gauge location in the various departments.
- Ability to help the manufacturing area in troubleshooting and resolving gauge issues.
- Maintain and support SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost) metrics in all areas assigned.
- Ensure strict adherence to and implementation of Company Safety and Work rules.
Qualifications - External
- This position requires the applicant to be a US Person with a US permanent residence. A US Person is a US Citizen or Green card holder
- High school diploma or equivalent or qualified experience.
- Equivalence of 1 to 2 years of Inspection or Gauging experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to perform basic mathematical calculations i.e. decimals, fractions, addition and subtraction.
- Strong application knowledge of calibration and metrology systems including the development, improving, and approving gauging methodologies and design. Qualifications include general or application knowledge of quality assurance systems and blue print interpretation.
- Works well with others in solving daily gauging problems and improvement ideas.
- Demonstrated proficiency in time and project management.
- Experience working in a lean manufacturing or continuous improvement environment.
- Advanced skill in reading and interpreting blueprints and work instructions in English required.
- Moderate physical demand required to lift gauges; must be able to lift to 50lbs. Must be able to stand for an entire shift, reach gauges overhead on shelf, stoop, crouch, push and pull cart loaded with heavy gauges.
