Position Summary
The Operations Instructor’s main responsibility is to oversee all components of the warehouse and logistics instruction element of the LOGIC (Logistics, Operations, General Warehousing and Inventory Control) training program. This includes the development of curriculum, classroom and warehouse instruction, safety training, screening of potential students, job placement and tracking, scheduling guest lecturers and field trips. This is a Safety Sensitive position.
Major Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Responsible for the development and implementation of the LOGIC training curriculum, including OSHA-10, forklift/equipment training, MSSC’s CLA/CLT certifications
- Ensure curriculum is fluid and updated as needed to stay current with industry trends
- Responsible for all aspects of classroom instruction as well as the “hands-on” warehouse portion of the training program
- Ensure effective communication with the Operations Department so the LOGIC training schedule and activities coordinates and complements FBD’s operations
- Coordinate with the Director in ordering all materials needed for instruction
- Support the recruitment of students, assisting the Workforce Programs Training Director as needed, with supporting students through all aspects of the recruitment process and ensuring that students’ career goals align with the program’s training goals
- Lead the development of a plan for students’ work experience and job placement, including but not limited to, creating a list of work experience sites and employers, expanding employer contacts, meeting with site managers, ensuring that the students participate in the work experience, as well as perform site visits and follow up
- Facilitate guest speakers and field trips relevant to the LOGIC training program
Qualities and Experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the warehousing and logistics industry
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in managing warehouse staff
- Experience in job instruction and training in a warehouse environment
- Demonstrated ability in written and verbal communication and listening skills
- MSSC CLT Certified or the ability to become certified
- Forklift certified instructor or the ability to become certified
- OSHA-10 Certified instructor or the ability to become certified
- Strong experience with the Microsoft Office suite of products
Competencies
- This position interfaces with all members of staff and functions as a member of the Workforce & Community Development function; regular (daily) interaction with students, presenters and guest speakers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Physical Requirements
- This position works primarily in a classroom and warehouse setting
- Comfortable working in extreme hot or cold temperatures
- Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts
- Must be comfortable in a loud work environment
- Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time
