Job description

Northvale is home to 5 people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. The residents enjoy a variety of community activities, including going to the library, getting their hair done at the salon, watching movies, bowling, shopping, attending church, going to dances and restaurants. When they're not out in the community, Northvale residents like to have parties in house to have fun with their friends. The people we support require various levels of support. This includes the provision of direct counseling, cooking, upkeep of household chores, assistance and/or reminders of personal care, medical, dietary and other needs within the house and out in the community.

Founded in 1998, the National Institute for People with Disabilities of New Jersey (NIPD/NJ), a member of YAI Network, provides a variety of services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. With an emphasis on creating opportunities for people we support to live as independently as possible, NIPD/NJ offers supervised, supportive, and independent residential programs in New Jersey. By providing in-home respite, information and referral, camping and recreation, after-school, socialization, and vocational programs, NIPD/NJ also supports children and adults with disabilities who reside at home with their families. Join our dynamic team as a residential Direct Support Professional in a program offering services to adults with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. You will work in a residential group home teaching life skills, providing individual and group counseling, recreation, and promoting community integration.
The ideal candidate will have enthusiasm for working with people with intellectual/developmental disabilities and a willingness to help with ADL's (assisting with showering, toileting, grooming, etc.) as necessary.
Requirements:
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required; some college is a plus
  • A valid Driver's License with no more than 5 points is required, NJS preferred
  • Work or life experience supporting people with intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred
  • Ability to participate in 2 days of NJS Mandated DDD initial trainings during normal business hours upon hire
  • Tuberculosis Testing Required
  • New Jersey State drug test screening is mandatory

Schedule:
  • Varies
