SCI TECH II- The Balachandran Laboratory

The Balachandran Laboratory seeks a Scientific Technician with experience in cell culture and molecular biology techniques, and a willingness to work with mouse models. The ideal candidate will have some experience in a research setting, possess many of the skills listed below, and be able work independently, with general guidance from the Principal Investigator and members of the lab. The technician will also be expected to manage the lab by ordering reagents and maintaining general laboratory records and supplies. The Balachandran lab is a congenial and creative environment, with plenty of room to acquire new skills and grow as a scientist. We are especially interested in candidates seeking a long-term Lab Manager-type career.

Duties and skills:

• Culturing human and mouse cells.
• Preparing plasmids and virus stocks.
• Standard molecular biology assays (e.g., DNA, RNAs, protein extraction, cloning, PCR, Western Blots)
• Flow cytometry
• Handling mice
• Maintaining equipment, ordering supplies, contacting vendors
• Ensure the laboratory is compliant with safety and environmental regulations.
• Maintain a collegial and professional working atmosphere.

Education
Bachelors Degree : Physical or Biological Sciences (Required)
Masters Degree : Physical or Biological Sciences (Preferred)
Combination of relevant education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Experience
2 Years experience working as a Scientific Technician I at FCCC or equivalent experience (Required)
General experience and familiarity with common lab tools and equipment (Preferred)
