Social Studies Teacher
Mount St. Dominic Academy is an independent 9-12 all-girls high school, sponsored by the Sisters of St. Dominic. The school is uniquely situated in western Essex County and draws from The Caldwells, West Essex, Cedar Grove, Verona, Montclair, Glen Ridge, Montville, Parsippany, as well as Bloomfield, Belleville, Newark, and The Oranges. We seek resumes from qualified educators of diverse backgrounds who are interested in a full-time job teaching social studies. Courses include World History I/II and US History. The successful candidate will have relevant experience and teaching certification. An advanced degree and/or experience in an all-girls school are a plus. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching high school social studies. Candidates will be collaborative members of their department open to teaching through various lenses and modes of instruction.
Essential Roles & Responsibilities:
- Preparing, motivating, and stimulating lessons that reflect knowledge of the curriculum, adolescent development, and student interests and abilities
- Employing a variety of teaching methods to engage a diverse set of learners with different backgrounds, experiences, and learning styles
- Encouraging an inclusive classroom that accepts the diverse perspectives and backgrounds of the students and elicits a greater understanding of the world
- Analyzing classroom data to develop lessons and instructional activities
- Demonstrating a desire to meaningfully integrate technology into the classroom
- Assuming other work-related duties as specified (substituting for absent colleagues, lunch duty, homeroom coverage, attendance at school events, etc.)
- Demonstrating effective classroom management skills
- Support students with identified social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs, as well as students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP) or students from diverse backgrounds
- Communicating effectively with parents, colleagues, and administrators
- Attending and participating appropriately in full and departmental/team faculty meetings
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
