SUMMARY
Develops survey methods to use in various Public Health assessment situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following:
- Assist with an environmental scan of rapid needs assessments, particularly those used in different disaster situations
- Collaborate with statistician to develop survey methodologies for various situations. These situations include:
- those on tribal lands that may be more spread out or not have as accurate of Census data,
- US territories that have less resources (e.g., staff) and smaller populations,
- expansive disaster areas such as those in rural and/or frontier communities
- disasters that affect fewer households (e.g., <800 households),
- persons experiencing homelessness,
- special populations such as those in dormitories, or nursing homes as those are considered separate from the household count in Census, and
- targeted populations for when data on the entire community is not desired/warranted (e.g., selecting specific groups that have been disproportionately marginalized, selecting areas with higher social vulnerability).
- Develop short guidance documents on the methodologies explaining the pros/cons, when appropriate, resources required, and step-by-step instructions
- Work with subject matter experts (SMEs) in disaster response to review developed materials during an in-person meeting
- Edit/update materials based on SME feedback
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
- Successfully pass a federal background check and a drug screen
- Cherokee Federal employees are included as covered employees in U.S. Presidential Executive Order 14042, which mandates Covid vaccines for federal contractors. Executive Order 14042 is currently blocked from enforcement pending court proceedings. Therefore, Cherokee Federal is halting the application of the mandate; however, if the injunction is lifted, Cherokee Federal will restore administration of the vaccine requirement.
SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY
No supervisory/management authority.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
PhD with 2+ years’ experience, Master’s degree with 5+ years’ experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Solid understanding of and practical experience implementing Survey methodology
- Familiarity with different rapid needs assessments or conducting in-person/field surveys
- Ability to create the rapid needs assessment methodology and translate research into easy-to-follow guidance materials
- Skill in developing dissemination products such as one-page overviews, 2–3-page reports and step-by-step documents
- Experience using EpiInfo for data entry and analysis is preferred
- Familiarity with CDC (Community Assessment for Public Health Emergency Response) CASPER technique is preferred.

- Work is conducted in a climate-controlled office and laboratory environment
