What the position is:
The Technical Writer position involves collaborating on, editing, and distributing Company generated manuals, revisions, and publications. You’ll be part of a strong, dynamic team and have access to a network of over 1000 airline professionals operating safe and reliable air travel on hundreds of flights each day. Our route network stretches from the eastern seaboard to the intermountain west and beyond, carrying over 1 million passengers annually.

You’ll be active and instrumental in the development and maintenance of a large technical publications suite. The suite consists of an extensive library of interfaced operating, airworthiness, aircraft, safety, security, flight crew, and human resource manuals. The position is exciting, it is rewarding, and it provides you with tremendous aviation learning opportunities and career expansion while collaborating with airline subject matter experts and content owners who are passionate about this rewarding industry.

Essential functions:
  • Converting source files to Adobe FrameMaker
  • Editing graphics and publishing documents for electronic and paper distributions
  • Coordinating manual revision schedules and implementation with the FAA and other Company departments
  • Monitoring Company and technical data development to ensure delivery is on schedule and in accordance with regulatory and Company requirements
  • Developing periodic reports, project plans, and schedules as required
  • Analyzing manufacturer, Company, and regulatory updates and documents to ensure manual data is current and available
  • Negotiating scope of work, deadlines, and priorities with various stakeholders
  • Finding and recognizing interfacing relationships within Company manuals
General requirements & qualifications:
  • Minimum experience of 2 years developing and writing technical documentation – preferably using FrameMaker
  • Complete working knowledge and skills required for desktop publishing
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat is mandatory
  • Proficiency in Adobe FrameMaker preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Office products and web design
  • Experience writing batch files to automate network folder/file tasks is preferred
  • Experience with Document Management Systems (DMS) for electronic distribution of publications is preferred
  • Some graphic/image editing experience using Photoshop or equivalent software is preferred
  • Flowcharting with MS Visio is preferred
  • Solid working knowledge of grammar, editing practices, and the use of style and page layout tools
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and tight deadlines
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including some nights and weekends
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Basic understanding of aviation terminology and/or airline operations preferred
