ABOUT THE BENTON MUSEUM OF ART: The Benton Museum of Art is the primary repository for Pomona College’s art collections. Building on the legacy of its previous incarnation (Pomona College Museum of Art), the Benton offers an ambitious and expanding exhibition program. Now housed in the new Benton Museum of Art designed by Machado Silvetti and Gensler, Pomona College’s collection of art numbers 17,000 objects, including Italian Renaissance paintings from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation; works on paper, including a first edition print series by Francisco Goya given by Norton Simon; and works in various media produced in Southern California in the twentieth century. In keeping with Pomona College’s reputation as a leading center of the visual arts, the collection also includes works by such esteemed alumni as Chris Burden ’69, Marcia Hafif ’51, Helen Pashgian ’56, Peter Shelton ’73, and James Turrell ’65. Recognized globally for its commitment to contemporary art, the museum is the home of The Project Series, which has featured more than 50 contemporary Southern California artists since it began in 1999. Through its collaboration with students and faculty, the museum encourages active learning and creative exploration across all disciplines of study within the liberal arts context.
POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Visitor Services Manager, the Visitor Services Associate (VSA) serves in a very multi-functional role. Serving as the first ambassador to the museum – setting a positive tone, welcoming families with warmth and excitement, sharing information about the museum in an efficient but enthusiastic way. VSAs will serve as the first point of contact for any visitors to the museum. They will monitor all front desk phone calls, directing calls and taking messages, as needed. Process all transaction on the museum POS and maintain accurate daily sales records. Share information and orienting new visitors to the new museum.
QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent customer service skills, with a minimum 1-year experience working in customer service, sales and/or hospitality. Excellent communications skills, with an ability to engage with both adults and children. Must be responsible, flexible, punctual, and able to work well under pressure. Must possess high standards, a positive attitude, be detail oriented, and work well both with others and independently. Welcoming, enthusiastic, engaging presence and able to accept feedback an willingness to continually improve. Ability to speak conversational Spanish, fluency preferred.

REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this part-time position is 10-20 hours per week, weekend availability is required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or Division.
ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: Temporary, part-time, non-benefits eligible, non-exempt position. The hourly rate for this role is between $15.50-$18.00. The specific factors that the organization will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include education, training, prior experience, and performance in prior role As a California employer, Pomona College requires all employees to be residents of California.
