EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER

The purpose of Bethlehem Community Preschool and Child Care is to provide quality learning experiences and care for: infants, toddlers, 3 and 4 year olds and school age children. BCPCC learning environments are cognitively stimulating, aesthetically pleasing, and foster children’s emotional, social, physical and cognitive growth. The center’s strong emphasis on family and community is promoted with developmentally appropriate practices. Educational learning goals are based on the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards and Creative Curriculum; developed through classroom observation as well as child and program assessments. BCPCC is rated a 3-star provider by YoungStar; Wisconsin’s quality rating program. BCPCC serves a diverse population with approximately 73 children.

Primary Responsibilities

The primary responsibly of a BCPCC teacher is to effectively utilize evaluations and assessment to plan, coordinate, and implement a developmentally appropriate learning experience, while supporting children’s social and emotional needs. Teachers are responsible for general supervision, classroom management, cleaning, and overall safety. In addition to comprehensive classroom responsibilities; teachers are responsible for clerical duties, and engaging in administrative support. Teachers report directly to the BCPCC Director.

The BCPCC is licensed for 73 children between the ages of 6 weeks through 12 years. Year round, full-day care and flexible scheduling options are available for all age groups. The BCPCC 4K serves eligible 4 and 5 year-olds in collaboration with the D. C. Everest School District. 4K classes are offered from 9:00-11:40 and 12:30-3:10 and are offered in conjunction with the school district’s academic year calendar. School-age programming is available during early release, school cancelations, no school days, and summer break.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must have at least 80 full day or 120 half day of experience as an assistant child care teacher.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or and Associated degree in Early Childhood or Two non-credit department-approved course in early Childhood education. (Child Care Profession and Skills and Strategies for the Child Care Teacher)
  • Infant Toddler Development course if working in Infant-Toddler Program.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of principles and techniques of Early Childhood Education
  • Programming Responsibilities
  • Plan and facilitate daily programs that are age appropriate and cognitively stimulating.
  • Implement WMELS into the creative curriculum
  • Use observation, documentation, and assessment tool as the foundation of lessons and activities.
  • Collaborate with BCPCC colleagues to cultivate commonality and cohesion within the program.
  • Proficiency in the area of adapting lessons and activities to meet the needs of all children.
  • Be knowledgeable of Wisconsin State Licensing Regulations and YoungStar (Wisconsin’s Quality Rating Program)
  • Arrange space, setting and materials in the classroom and outdoors, according to the highest standard of the ECERS rating scale; ensuring a clean, orderly, child-centered environment.
  • Work to develop and maintain a supportive rapport with parents/guardians, and facilitate parent/guardian participation in the classrooms.
  • Promote tolerance and foster social responsibility through multicultural and anti-bias programming and environments.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, tolerance, and kindness to all children and families regardless of race, religion, nationality, or abilities.
  • Organize community collaborations and field trips; insuring that safety standards are met.

  • Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians, colleagues, office personal and center Director.
  • Formally observe children’s activities and progress; document and share information regarding children’s experiences with the teaching team and parents/guardians regularly. Parent-teacher conferences are to be held twice per academic year or as needed/requested.
  • Maintain up-to-date children’s portfolio and assessment records
  • Enforce all licensing regulations
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate medical and accident logs.
  • Participate in monthly emergency fire evacuation, periodic tornado drills and lock-down procedures.
  • Notify the director of classroom needs and shop for special supplies for the classroom
  • Assist and/or share input on curriculum, equipment and special projects or circumstances involving BCPCC.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and in-services as scheduled.

General Responsibilities

  • Complete 15 hours of continuing education yearly for part-time and 25 hours for full time.
  • Complete and maintain all required documentation required by state licensing (Criminal background check, finger print, TB, physical, CPR/1st Aid/AED, SBS, SIDS, CAN training, mandatory child abuse reporting)
  • Ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children.
  • Participate in breakfast/snack/lunch distribution and clean-up in accordance with state/federal licensing guidelines.
  • Provide recommendations and referrals for children with special needs.
  • Help in keeping the center clean. Jobs may include but not limited to: sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning bathroom, and organizing.
  • Maintain knowledge of the cultures in the community, particularly as they may relate to the children served by the programs.
  • Maintain a professional working atmosphere and confidentiality of information in relation to staff, children, families and co-workers.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of the BCPCC.

  • Physical Effort

  • Working outdoors on a daily basis;
  • Visual scanning to insure child safety indoors and out.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour
