Job description
The successful candidate for this position will conduct research in single-stranded DNA virus assembly and packaging. This includes developing protocols, designing and performing experiments, summarizing and interpreting experiment data, and general lab maintenance. submitting research reports in laboratory setting.

- Cleaning and sterilizing of labware used for research.
- Maintenance of mutant viral stocks and bacterial strains.
- Following detailed protocols for genetic, biochemical, and biophysical assays
- Generating, structurally guided, site-specific viral mutants and cloned viral genes to dissect the mechanisms of capsid assembly and single-stranded DNA packaging.
- Record keeping, making observations, analyzing data, and interpreting experimental results.
- Preparation of technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative results
- Additional duties may be assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Have a good understanding of bacterial physiology as it relates to bacteriophage infection.
- Knowledge of culturing bacteria sand bacteriophages and with sterile technique
- Ability to work with single-stranded DNA and protein purification.
- Skills in analyzing sequence dataExcellent note-taking skills, detail-oriented
- Ability to perform experiments and analyze experimental data independently
- Previous bacteriophage laboratory experience
- Molecular biology experience in cloning and in vitro site-directed mutagenesis.
- Biochemical and biophysical experience in protein purification, virus purification, single-stranded DNA purification, and equilibrium and rate zonal sedimentation.
- High School Diploma or equivilant learning attained through experience is required.
- Prior experience with protein purification, virus purification, single-stranded DNA purification, equilibrium and rate zonal sedimentation.
- Prior experience working with prokaryotic viruses.
- Prior experience with prokaryotic genetics
- B.S. degree in microbiology or a related expertise.
